Is it for you?
The first thing that you must know is whether you are good with animals. This is a prerequisite. If you are no good with animals or do not like being around them then you are not cut out for a career in dog training. You should find a different profession.

Do you want a Qualification?
You can choose to attend a certified training program that is offers you a certificate recognized nationally by many training schools. There are some schools which will allow you to just buy a certificate. This is not a good thing. This does not make you a trainer. It just means you have bought an expensive piece of paper. The Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers has a list of schools you can earn your certificate from. This certificate shows that you are dedicated to a career in dog training and is recognized across the nation. This is the paper you want.
Choosing a Training School
When you decide on a training school, look for one which covers a history of dog training. You will want one that covers dog behavior. You will want to learn the fundamentals of animal learning. Another important part is business management. You will want to know how to use your certificate once you have obtained it. A career in dog training is just like any other career. You are either made for it or you are not going to like it at all. Do some research to determine if you are making the right decision to seek a career in dog training.
